A Peculiar People

Funerals are always kind of sad and I attended one for my great aunt Drew this past Saturday. She was an intelligent, generous soul, not the church going kind of soul, but a good soul. Traditionally mormon folk have a gathering after the services to eat, visit and share memories of the dearly departed. At this luncheon the lovely ladies of the Relief Society (a women's organization in the LDS Church) provides all the food, which is made and donated by the women of the ward (congregation) and they are there during this feast to set up tables, and chairs, serve the food, wash dishes, clean up and be of any other support necessary. They do this for no monetary compensation and provide much time for those in the family to not worry about anything but being with family. I blog about this today because as I mentioned my aunt was not a church going individual, but the ladies from the ward that was closest to her were there to assist us with this luncheon even though none had ever met her. I was so grateful for those sweet ladies help that day. They were perfect examples of Christ-like, self-less service. I pray for God's blessings to shine down upon them.

Bee Boxes

As we start to think about spring coming soon, Yay!!! (sorry I'm excited!) I dislike winter very much, I don't like to be cold. And all my favorite things happen in the spring. Gardens are planted, tulips pop up, the earth is renewed in a beautiful color palette, bees come out of hibernation and many more! But today I am blogging about a project that has been going on around this place lately. We are getting ready to add 2 more hives to our collection. We currently have 3 hives that belong to us and 4 more that live on our farm. The hive is made up of wood pieces constructed together to make a bee home. My handy husband has been putting all these pieces together in preparation for our new bees to live here. (Bless his heart, it is a tedious process, but of course it's more cost effective to get all the pieces unassembled!) The pics above show the raw materials, one handy man, and what the finished product looks like. Ta-da bee homes!

Fancy Meeting Ewe

First random blogging: Welcome to my new blog! I'm Kacey Kalmar. Wife of an awesome, handy husband, stay at home mom of 3 fantastic little people. I play chef, gardener, farmer, seamstress, crafter, housekeeper, problem solver, Dr./nurse, teacher, taxi driver, laundress, psychiatrist, beekeeper, accountant, and fun director at this circus. (Please keep in mind that I have no formal degree in any of the above honorable professions.) I just enjoy pretending to be mediocre at all of them! This will be a blog of much randomness! You may see posts about children, bees, sewing, fashion, bummer lambs or anything in between. We live on what I call my little "Patch A Heaven" in West Mountain, Utah. Yes, I am a mormon. I was raised on a sheep/cattle ranch in the Sanpete Valley, that I still consider "home". I enjoy the outdoors, riding horses, fishing, camping, working on the farm, and then there's another side of me that loves fashion, make-up, high heels, and over-accessorizing my outfits, (well at least I admit it, that's the first step right?) I own a very small business called Fancy Ewe Wearables and Sweets. I mean really, really small (it's just me!) It's named after my love of raising sheep (my family has done this for generations). I make and sell lots of fun clothing, accessories and candies at boutiques and on my website fancyewewearables.com. I sell delicious raw honey that we harvest from our beehives every year. So that's me in a nutshell. Here are some pics of what inspired the Fancy Ewe name. (Lots of people ask, a Ewe is a female sheep, just in case you were wondering).
